Antonio Annetto Caruana : ウィキペディア英語版
Antonio Annetto Caruana
Antonio Annetto Caruana (1830–1905), also known as A.A. Caruana, was a Maltese archaeologist and author.
Born in Valletta, Malta, Caruana showed an unusual proficiency in the knowledge of classical literature by his early adulthood. Graduating in Theology, he declined being ordained as a priest to marry Maria Metropoli. Thereafter he started a long career at the University of Malta which saw him secretary of that institution for many years.
Later he was appointed librarian (1880–1896) and Director of Education (1887–1896) and during these years brought about various changes within the institution. He is probably best known for his activities as an archaeologist, publishing numerous books and articles including ''Report on the Phoenician and Roman Antiquities in the Maltese Islands''.〔http://books.google.com/books?id=M8oNAAAAQAAJ〕 Although much of his ideas have since been challenged, Caruana is considered to be a pioneer in the field of heritage management in the Maltese Islands.
